EPI 3.2 and LAN/multi-user mode

Crane, Giles - Posted on 02/04/04 05:45 AM
Is Epi_Info 3.2 able to
operate in a multi-user mode,
perhaps on a LAN?
Several of our agencies
maintain LANs, and will
want to make any Epi_Info
information system available
for simultaneous access.

As you recall, EPI6 programs
have provisions for
file sharing and record locking
in order to operate
in a multi-user mode.
At NJ Health we have one or more
EPI6 systems operating this way.

Cordially,
Giles Crane

Dear Giles,

the difference is that the software should reside on the individual pc's
with the data file on the LAN. Epi Info for windows is not runable from
the LAN as a multi-access program.

Thank you for contacting the Epi Info Help desk.

I conclude, then, that with the EPI_INFO programs
located on two or more PCs, that users
may "simultaneously" access
an ACCESS/EPI_INFO .MDB file
on a LAN server?

Other ways to ask the question:
Do the EPI_INFO programs
provide for file sharing and record/locking
of an ACCESS/EPI_INFO .MDB database?
Can an agency set up a Client-server
application on a LAN?

Cordially,
Giles Crane

Dear Giles ,

Yes. Epi Info on each pc with the mdb data file on the LAN, shared
between users either adding, updating,or analyzing at the same time.

Thank you for contacting the Epi Info Help desk.

The way to do this is to place the database (MDB) on a network resource that each computer can access. Then, the users can access the MDB normally through Enter and add records simultaneously.
